Parking Restrictions Proposed on 12th Ave

Mike Morris-Lent, of the Seattle Department of Transportation, sent an e-mail to Steve Louis, Greater Duwamish District Coordinator, on the issue of parking changes that have been proposed by someone in the neighborhood. Some of the suggestions deal with the possibility that Metro will get rid of one of the bus stops near the corner of Corson and Airport Way South. But two others will have some impact on anyone that lives or works in or around the Horton building:

...below is the list of parking changes that were recently presented to SDOT by a Georgetown community member.

1- 2 hr. Street parking south of the bus stop in front of Stellar pizza to Corson st.( west side Airport way)
2- Street parking north of the Corson ave bus stop on (east side of 5500 block Airport way)
3- 2 hr parking on south side of Lucille st. west of airport way ( in front of western trailer)
4- 2 hr. parking limit on the 10 angle spaces on east side of 12th so ( 6000 blk.) by All city coffee
5-Remove 2-5 am restriction on So. Harney st. west of 12th so. and replace with 4hr limit.

It seems possible that some of the effects would be to free up parking during the day for businesses, while curtailing parking for people who work in the area, who who live there and need overnight parking. The e-mail continues:

Keys to our review of these parking requests include-
o safety and
o that the community - and, particularly, adjacent business and property owners - are aware of these parking proposals, and have the opportunity to shape and to take a position on them.

One part of the request for parking on the west side of Airport Way, along the block between Corson and Lucille, involves Metro's posting notice for possible removal of the bus zone on the west side Airport Way, just north of Corson. We are waiting for Metro's findings from this process. - that this would affect our response for the parking change along this block.I'm anticipating that we will be able to provide a response to these requests in roughly the next two weeks.

Here's where I'd like to ask for your help.-In helping to ensure that the general community and affected property owners are aware of these parking requests and our review of them, could you share this information with your contacts in the neighborhood?
