How clean is your Watering Hole?
As someone who has done some time in the restaurant/bar industry, I can attest to the uncertainty during the visit from the county health inspector. Some owners tend to freak out, others are pretty relaxed. The last bar I worked in was so consistently clean that the inspector had to find something--so they dinged the place for not having a nail brush next to the sink. As a customer, it's tough to determine what the conditions are, (aside from the correlation between the condition of the restroom and the kitchen), but the county posts info for viewing on how clean your favorite place is. Granted, a place that serves up a full menu runs more risks of getting dinged (a "zero" is a perfect score, and a "90" gets the place shut down), then your average beer and well joint, but let's see how some of our local places have fared as of late:
Smarty Pants: Mostly zeros.
Nine Pound Hammer: All zeros.
Jule's Mae's: Had some minor issues a while back, but looks like they're fixed.
Calamity Jane's: 2008 has been all zeros.
GLC: All zeros.
Uncle Mo's: Less then perfect.
Hangar Cafe: Minor issues.
Marco Polo: Pretty clean.
Squid and Ink: Getting better.
A bit, err, alarming, were these:
Georgetown Shell on Corson: came pretty close to being shut down last May.
Maruta Shoten: Not as bad as Shell, but some pretty high marks.
Herfy's on Corson & Bailey: Not so good.
