Library Forum on Neighborhood Blogging

Some local neighborhood bloggers will be hanging out at the Seattle Public Library for a sort of "expert" blogger led panel discussion on what it takes to start a neighborhood blog, how to participate in the blogging community, and other topics. The forum is sponsored by City Club, and they sent this out a while back:

From Ballard to Burien, from West Seattle to South Lake Union, and from Capitol Hill to Beacon Hill, the proliferation of neighborhood blogs all around Seattle is changing not just the local media landscape but also how community conversations are taking place in an increasingly digital world. How does the 24-7 nature of citizen-driven blogs impact "traditional" news sources and how people are informed? How do these interactive (and often anonymous) online discussions promote greater civic participation and sense of community? Who runs these blogs and are they profitable? Come hear from some of Seattle's most active neighborhood bloggers and experts about what it takes to start a blog, some of the hot button neighborhood issues generating the most debate on blogs today and ways to participate in the blogosphere. Stay after to blog with the experts in a library computer lab. Bring your questions for what promises to be an enlightening CityClub event!

Current event details are here.

The experts on hand will be Heather McLeland-Wieser; Manager of Art, Recreation, Literature, History, Travel and Maps; Seattle Public Library; Tracy Record, Editor and Co-publisher, West Seattle Blog; Amber Campbell, Ranier Valley Post; Scott Schaefer, Author, The B-Town (Burien) Blog ; a rep from the MyBallard Blog; all to be moderated by Monica Guzman, Online Reporter, The Big Blog, Seattle Post-Intelligencer.

Thanks for mentioning they dropped the fee. I hadn't heard that; it was still in my events calendar as $5 but with a pointed mention that participants weren't getting paid, it was a fee to support CityClub. I suppose that indicates they have a grand total of 5 people signed up to be in the audience so far, as in parents/spouses of those of us on the panel. (My parents are long gone so all I can contribute for ringers is the hub and kid!)

Good morning, Georgetown Blog! Thanks for posting.

It's true that the event is now free. Originally, the $5 fee was solely to cover the costs of food we're providing for attendees! However, in order for general-public events to be held at the library, they must be free, so we dropped the registration costs.
