Bag "fee" Backlash

After the Coalition to Stop the Seattle Bag Tax American Chemistry Council got their signatures to put a counter measure on the ballot--to repeal the bag fee/tax/whatever it is, a group has just now finally registered with Seattle's Ethics and Elections Commission. And so far, have only reported $100 of contributions. What gives, with paid signature gatherers?

A Further look at the paperwork says that Jack Burns, a Bellevue attorney, is listed as the Treasurer, and it appears that he was the same Bellevue attorney that represented the strip club Deja Vu to a meeting of the Seattle Planning Commission regarding the strip club zoning in 2006, and represented that client on several other issues, and seems a bit dramatic with the Hitler comparisons. We'll see how dramatic a fight can be over a bag fee.

Both issues involved Georgetown--the bag fee was a child of the "zero waste" concept, born out of the fight over the garbage transfer site, and of course, Greg Nickels wished to have AWS designated as part of a "strip club zone", the subject of the above Planning Commission meeting. It's a small Town.

UPDATE: The number listed for the storage of campaign records is that of a public relations firm, G3 and Associates, whose clients include American Life Inc., Moneytree, Puget Sound Regional Council, and a whole litany of corporations and non-profits. The owner: huge Obama supporter.
